Twenty-four children were selected to represent Nigeria at an international scout Jamboree — and only one of them came from Northern Nigeria. That exceptional young scout was John Mamman Garba, a student of Holy Trinity Mission School in Sabon Gari, Kano.
Chosen from the Kano Scout Group, John and his fellow scouts embarked on a two-week journey by ship, arriving in Liverpool on the 23rd of the month.
On July 27th, they crossed the River Mersey to set up camp at Arrow Park in Birkenhead, where the Jamboree officially began. The Nigerian delegation pitched six tents and participated in a variety of activities, including games and traditional scout dances.
The event brought together 50,000 young scouts from 42 countries around the world. By July 31st, the camp came to a close — but the adventure didn’t end there.
The Nigerian scouts then went on a memorable sightseeing tour across Wales, Manchester, and London.
