NANS Calls for Action: Sack VCs, Rectors Mismanaging Student Loan Scheme
Students Demand Accountability in Education Funding
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Federal Government to sack Vice-Chancellors (VCs) and Rectors involved in the mismanagement of the newly introduced Student Loan Scheme.
NANS President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, made the demand in a statement on Sunday, expressing concerns over reports of irregularities in the scheme’s implementation.
Students Deserve Better
The Student Loan Scheme was introduced to ease financial burdens on students and ensure access to quality education. However, recent reports suggest that some university administrators are mishandling the funds—delaying disbursements, imposing unauthorized charges, or even diverting resources.
NANS insists that such actions undermine the scheme’s purpose and demand immediate action.
NANS’ Demands:
- Immediate removal of VCs and Rectors found guilty of mismanagement.
- Transparent investigation into the loan disbursement process.
- Stronger oversight to prevent future abuse of the scheme.
Government Must Act Now
“Education is a right, not a privilege,” Emonefe stated. “If university heads cannot manage these loans properly, they should step aside for competent leaders who will prioritize students’ welfare.”
NANS urged the Federal Government to act swiftly, warning that failure to address these issues could lead to nationwide protests.
What’s Next?
Students across Nigeria are watching closely. Will the government hold erring officials accountable, or will mismanagement continue to hinder access to education?
For now, NANS remains vigilant, ready to fight for fairness and transparency in the education sector.
