Kano 2027: Kwankwaso Advises Supporters to “Play Along” as Political Pressure Mounts

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Kano State Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has addressed growing concerns among his supporters in Kano State.

In a recently circulated video message, Kwankwaso spoke frankly to members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP loyalists who, according to reports, are facing increasing pressure to abandon the party and align with rival political forces, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Over the past weeks, several NNPP supporters, including political appointees and grassroots mobilisers, have allegedly been asked to sign documents indicating their willingness to defect. Some of these pressures are said to come with threats of losing appointments, benefits, or political relevance within the state.

Acknowledging the difficult position many of his supporters now find themselves in, Kwankwaso urged calm and strategic thinking. He advised those under pressure not to openly resist or confront powerful interests, but rather to “play along” if necessary in order to protect themselves from harassment or intimidation.

According to him, signing defection forms under duress does not mean a loss of loyalty or political conviction. Instead, it can be seen as a temporary survival strategy while awaiting the right time to act freely. He reassured his followers that political loyalty is not measured by fear-driven actions but by long-term commitment to shared ideals.

Kwankwaso was, however, quick to clarify that he remains firmly committed to his political path. He stressed that he has not defected to any party and will only consider political realignment if it aligns clearly with his broader goals, including his ambition to play a major role in the 2027 presidential contest.

The former governor also reminded supporters that Nigerian politics is full of shifting alliances and power struggles, especially as elections draw closer. He encouraged them to remain united in spirit, patient in action, and focused on the bigger picture rather than immediate pressure.

This message comes at a time when Kano’s political landscape is witnessing intense maneuvering, with major parties positioning themselves to control the state ahead of 2027. Analysts believe Kwankwaso’s remarks reflect a cautious but calculated approach aimed at keeping his political base intact despite external challenges.

For many of his followers, the statement offers reassurance that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains alive, strategic, and determined — even in the face of political intimidation and uncertainty.
