2026 Budget: Interior Ministry Gets ₦696.4bn as NSCDC, Immigration Receive Major Boost

The Federal Government has allocated ₦696.42 billion to the Ministry of Interior in the proposed 2026 national budget, signaling a strong focus on internal security, border control, and public safety across Nigeria.

The allocation covers key paramilitary agencies under the ministry, with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) receiving the largest portions of the budget.

1. NSCDC Tops the Allocation with ₦244.26bn

The NSCDC emerged as the highest beneficiary, receiving ₦244.26 billion. The funds are expected to strengthen the corps’ operations in protecting critical national assets, including oil pipelines, power infrastructure, and public facilities. The allocation will also support personnel welfare, training, logistics, and deployment of modern security equipment nationwide.

2. Immigration Service Receives ₦200.80bn

The Nigeria Immigration Service was allocated ₦200.80 billion, reflecting the government’s effort to enhance border security and migration management. The funding will support passport and visa reforms, digital border surveillance systems, and improved monitoring of cross-border movements to curb illegal migration and transnational crimes.

3. Correctional Service Gets ₦198.85bn

The Nigeria Correctional Service received ₦198.85 billion to improve custodial and non-custodial facilities across the country. The funds are expected to address prison congestion, enhance inmate welfare, improve security in correctional centres, and expand rehabilitation and skills-acquisition programmes.

4. Federal Fire Service Allocated ₦44.29bn

The Federal Fire Service was allocated ₦44.29 billion, which will be used to procure modern firefighting equipment, improve emergency response times, and expand fire service coverage to more communities, particularly in high-risk and underserved areas.

5. Ministry Headquarters, Service Board Get ₦8.2bn

The Ministry of Interior Headquarters received ₦5.58 billion for administrative coordination and policy implementation, while the Civil Defence, Immigration and Prison Service Board (CDIPB) was allocated ₦2.64 billion to manage recruitment, promotions, and personnel affairs across the paramilitary services.

Focus on Security and Public Safety

The nearly ₦700 billion allocation underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening internal security, improving border management, enhancing emergency response, and reforming correctional facilities. Analysts believe effective implementation of the budget could lead to better-equipped agencies and improved safety for Nigerians.
