A heavy cloud of grief has settled over Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano State following the shocking and tragic killing of a woman and her six children. The heartbreaking incident, which occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026, has left residents in disbelief, fear, and deep mourning.

The victims, identified as 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her six young children, were reportedly attacked inside their home by unknown assailants. According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, the attackers forcefully gained entry into the house and carried out a brutal assault using sharp and dangerous weapons, leaving the family severely injured.

Neighbors, alarmed by cries and chaos, raised an emergency alert. The victims were immediately rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, in a desperate attempt to save their lives. Sadly, doctors confirmed that all seven victims had died shortly after arriving at the hospital, plunging the entire community into mourning.

The Kano State Police Command confirmed that a distress call was received at about 12:10 pm, reporting the gruesome attack at the residence of Haruna Bashir. In response, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, ordered a swift deployment of security personnel to the scene. The operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani, who ensured the area was secured and calm restored.

To guarantee a thorough investigation, the case has been handed over to ACP Wada Jarma, the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The police have assured the public that all necessary intelligence and forensic tools are being deployed to track down and arrest those responsible for the horrific act.

Residents of Dorayi Chiranchi described the victims as peaceful, humble, and well-known in the area, noting that Fatima was a devoted mother who cared deeply for her children. Many community members gathered at the family’s home, some in tears, others in silent shock, as prayers were offered for the departed souls.

Community leaders and residents have called on the government and security agencies to strengthen security measures, particularly in residential areas, to prevent a recurrence of such tragic incidents. Many also urged parents and families to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly.

The Kano State Police Command expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community, emphasizing that justice will be served. As investigations continue, the tragic loss of a mother and her six children remains a painful reminder of the urgent need for peace, vigilance, and improved security across communities.
